Deep link URL shortener with App Store fallback

One short link that opens your app when it's installed, and sends everyone else to the App Store, Google Play, or your website.

The problem with sharing app links

An app link such as myapp://product/42 only works for people who already have your app. Everyone else taps it and hits an error. A plain web link always works, but it never opens your app.

A Gajo deep link does both. Share one short link in emails, ads, QR codes, or social posts: people with the app land on the right screen, and people without it land on a page you choose.

How it works

  1. Shorten your app link Paste your app's link (for example myapp://product/42) into My URLs. Links with a custom scheme like this need a Pro plan.
  2. Add a fallback Enter a web address for people without the app, usually your App Store or Google Play listing.
  3. Share the short link When someone taps it, Gajo tries to open your app. If the app doesn't open within about a second and a half, they're sent to your fallback instead.

Link previews work too. When the link is pasted into Slack, iMessage, X, or WhatsApp, the preview shows your fallback page's title and image, not a Gajo page.

Different fallbacks for iPhone and Android

Combine deep links with device routing to give each platform its own fallback: iPhones go to the App Store, Android phones go to Google Play, and desktop visitors go to your website. Each device slot can be a deep link with its own fallback.

Create deep links with the API

Pro API keys can create deep links directly. Send the app link as url and the web fallback as fallbackUrl:

curl -X POST https://gajo.io/api/v1/shorten \
  -H "x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "url": "myapp://product/42",
    "fallbackUrl": "https://apps.apple.com/app/example/id123456789"
  }'

Add "customCode": "summer-app" to get a branded link like gajo.io/c/summer-app. See the API docs for every field.

Good to know

  • Gajo uses your app's custom URL scheme (like myapp://). Set the scheme up in your app first.
  • Some in-app browsers block app links. Visitors in those browsers get your fallback.
  • Clicks are counted the same way as any other link, with bots and link previews excluded.

Make your links open your app

Deep links are part of Gajo Pro at $9.99 a month, along with custom codes, device routing, and A/B split links.
